Plex has spoiled me with transcoding so I wanted a way for plex to view the stream. This works well enough but having to play with the resolution and bitrate is annoying. Remote in to home -> Start streaming on home desktop -> OBS performing window capture and streaming via RTMP with lowered resolution and low enough bitrate for DSL -> to RTMP server -> connect via VPN from my laptop at my parents to home VPN server -> use VLC to open the RTMP stream and watch. I have 150MBps cable at home, and in the past I have fixed it like so: My use case for this is when I visit my parents and a live streaming event is going on I often can't watch it because of their slow DSL connection. I figured I would share the information in case anyone wants to do the same. I've been attempting to cast from OBS to plex for the past couple of nights and have finally come up with a solution that works decently enough. I bet the same thing can be done with emby, jellyfin or even ffmpeg if you can figure it out. I'm open to suggestions, but since I dropped a thread on this years ago with no responses at all, I'm starting to think either not enough MC users use Firesticks, or no one cares. Or maybe I need to stop whining and just go ahead and build a Firestick App specifically for JRiver's API. Maybe the answer is as simple as finding a better skin/layout for Panel or Gizmo. Unfortunately, there are other solutions that do play well with Firestick (Emby, Jellyfin, etc.) but I live and die by my smartlists. VLC works well enough to navigate and play videos, and is what I use mostly, but it's not the prettiest interface. It crashes regularly and doesn't play everything. Kodi has never worked well on any of my 4k Firesticks. If you have the MC DLNA/UPNP server going, you can use other players to access it, but these are not great: Panel can be viewed through Amazon Silk, but it's not a great experience on Firestick either, as you're trying to use a mouse in a mouseless environment. It also does not recall where you left off on videos. Gizmo can be installed (sideloaded) into Firestick, and Play/Pause works, but the rewind, fast forward, and next/previous won't work. ![]() I've championed this cause for a while, and will throw some of my observations out there, in case someone comes across this. Unfortunately, after about 5 years and 5 builds of MC, Gizmo still doesn't work with the most popular medium out there. Is there anyone here using the Fire Stick to play music and/or videos with House Band? How did you go about setting it up? I can try it out with the trial to see but the Fire Stick or even playing videos/music in a graphical interface to my smart TV (as Fire Stick does with Amazon Prime Music) or to a Google Cast enabled AVR would be a huge bonus. I also have an Echo so the music part alone would be worth it if it works as I've read it does. I was wondering if JRiver and the House Band skill could work the same way with the Fire Stick but better. Alexa told me several times she couldn't access the Plex skill now for no apparent reason. For instance, Plex media's Alexa skill allows me to choose the fire stick as the player so when I issue voice commands it will play but I am not happy with the Plex experience on Fire Stick as you must have the app running (it won't auto launch upon play request) and it was balky. I have spent a good hour or two trying to figure out what support, if any, there is for the Amazon Fire Stick as a player. ![]() ![]() I don't see a way to email so I'm posting here.
